All Troops and Groups are responsible for their own camping (Tents, food, Water, Transport.) The Region Team does not provide supervision for Youth Members outside of the Course Hours, 8.30 – 4 Saturday and 8.30 – 3 Sunday (or close to those times)

Successful completion of this activity will qualify a Scout for the Caving Proficiency Badge.

Pre-requisite qualifications: None. (No abseiling. Only non-abseiling caves will be attempted, all caves are horizontal)

Directions:

Drive south along the Hume Hwy and turn off at Yass. At Yass take the Wee Jasper rd and when you get to Wee Jasper drive though town . Turn left at first T intersection, Left again at the next T intersection, then immediately left into Billy Grace Reserve. Follow track towards the river, to the Camp. Camp fees are about $5 a night. (It is possible to camp on the Friday night.) There are Toilets and Hot Showers there. There is swimming in the river. A map showing the campsite is here: http://goo.gl/maps/dern3 The journey takes about 3.5 hours from Bundilla.

Equipment:

All Scouts and leaders doing the course will need a torch (Head torch preferred) and a second source of light (Hand Torch) Small candle and matches (In waterproofed ziploc bag). Cloth tape or strong masking tape (for attaching light to helmet) Boots or sturdy shoes (Dunlop Volleys are excellent)

The caves can get dirty and muddy, so a pair of old clothes or overalls are best for caving.

The course starts at 9 am on the Saturday. We will be doing a cave tour of Carey’s cave on the Saturday morning. Cost of tour $14.30 for Adults. Course participants have already paid for their tour of Carey’s cave within the cost of the course.

Any other questions please contact the Activity Coordinator Meredith Stewart, 98011717 or David McKinley, 96260355.
